PWCC Shatters Records with Jordan Card Sale

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction made headlines yet again as it witnessed another record-breaking sale of a Michael Jordan card. This time, a highly sought-after 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition was sold for an impressive six-figure sum of $216,000, setting a new record for this specific parallel card.

The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card features basketball legend Michael Jordan and is known for its rarity and collectibility. This particular card is part of a limited edition of only 50 parallel cards, adding to its exclusivity. The sale of this card now ranks it as the second most expensive Star Rubies card ever sold.

The Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card series is renowned for introducing serial-numbered cards to collectors, creating rarity within the hobby. Along with other notable editions like Skybox’s Precious Metal Gems, these cards have become highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

What makes the 1998 release of the Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card even more special is the fact that it was the final Skybox set to showcase Michael Jordan before his retirement in 1998. This adds a sentimental value to the card, making it even more desirable and valuable among collectors.

The cards from this set are known for their intricate foil details and edge-to-edge design, which makes them more prone to wear and damage. This factor further adds to their rarity, as finding cards in excellent condition becomes a challenge. The record-setting Jordan card, which received a PSA 7 grade (Professional Sports Authenticator), is a Pop 4. This means that only four cards of this specific type have received the same grade, with a mere five others graded even higher. This rarity contributes significantly to the card’s value and appeal.

In addition to the record-breaking sale of the Michael Jordan card, PWCC Marketplace’s Premier Auction also witnessed other notable collectibles reaching new heights. A PSA 1 (MC) graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card sold for $35,400, despite its less-than-perfect condition. This card, often regarded as one of the most iconic and valuable in the sports collectibles market, continues to command high prices.

Another record was set with the sale of a Kobe Bryant 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys patch auto card, which fetched an impressive $32,700. The combination of Bryant’s popularity, the rarity of the card, and its autographed patch make it a highly sought-after item among collectors.

A 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 card featuring Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas also made waves, selling for $20,400. This card’s appeal lies in the intersection of motorsport enthusiasts and card collectors, as it combines the excitement and glamour of Formula 1 with the thrill of collectible card ownership.

The recent PWCC Marketplace auction once again showcased the flourishing market for sports collectibles, with the sale of the Michael Jordan card setting a new record and capturing the attention of collectors worldwide. As the demand for rare and high-quality cards continues to grow, these auctions offer a platform for enthusiasts to acquire unique and valuable pieces of sports history.
