Hockey Heritage: The Howe Family Collection Auction

Hockey fans and sports memorabilia enthusiasts alike are in for a treat as the iconic Howe family collection hits the auction block, showcasing a treasure trove of historic artifacts and memorabilia from the legendary Gordie Howe and his sons, Mark and Marty.

The online auction presents a unique opportunity to own a piece of hockey history with 524 lots filled with items directly connected to the Howe family’s illustrious careers. As an added bonus, all net proceeds from the auction will go towards supporting the Howe Foundation, further cementing the family’s legacy both on and off the ice.

One of the most sought-after items up for grabs is Gordie Howe’s game-worn jersey from the 1976-77 season with the WHA’s Houston Aeros. Additionally, jerseys worn by his sons, Mark and Marty, during their time playing alongside their father and clinching the Avco Cups in 1974 and 1975 are also part of the collection. The auction further boasts a variety of valuable memorabilia such as Howe’s watch from the 1971 All-Star Game, a gold charm from the 1953 All-Star Game, Jubilee Medals from Queen Elizabeth, and an array of trophies, plaques, and awards spanning Howe’s illustrious career.

Apart from sports memorabilia, the auction includes personal correspondence from notable world leaders like Brian Mulroney, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon. Autographed items from sports legends such as Muhammad Ali and Ted Williams are also featured in the collection. A standout piece is a miniature Stanley Cup presented to Howe by the Detroit Red Wings in 2008, commemorating his significant contributions to the team’s Stanley Cup victories.

Delving deeper into Gordie Howe’s personal belongings, the auction offers a diverse range of items including cowboy hats, fishing rods, golf shoes, original hockey card artwork, and an assortment of autographed items such as jerseys, gloves, and even a cigar box from the Playboy Mansion. The memorabilia from Mark and Marty Howe, including championship rings and game-used gear, add another layer of historical significance to the collection, showcasing the family’s legacy in the world of hockey.

Adding to the allure of the auction are autographs from hockey greats like Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and various other legends, providing enthusiasts and collectors with a comprehensive glimpse into the rich tapestry of hockey history. Whether you’re a die-hard hockey fan or a dedicated collector of sports memorabilia, the Howe family collection auction offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of history and celebrate the enduring legacy of one of hockey’s most iconic families.
