Heritage Auctions Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction

Heritage Auctions is set to host a spectacular event with their Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction on July 12-13, presenting a plethora of rare and highly coveted baseball cards that are sure to excite collectors. Among the highlights are a mint-condition 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card, a gem-mint Michael Jordan Fleer rookie card, and a gem-mint chrome rookie card signed by the young phenom Bryce Harper. This auction also features sealed packs, boxes, and cases that hold the promise of hidden gems waiting to be discovered, making it a must-see for sports memorabilia enthusiasts.

One of the standout attractions is a collection of 1959 baseball cards that were originally stapled to containers of Canadian cookies, a unique and rare find with only 69 cards in the PSA population report. The roster includes legendary players such as Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Yogi Berra, adding to the allure of this special collection. Although the name Dad’s Cookies may not ring a bell for many, the historical significance of these cards in the world of sports memorabilia is undeniable.

The Dad’s Cookies cards were produced by Exhibits Supply Company, a Chicago-based firm known for creating picture postcards distributed in arcades before venturing into sports memorabilia. The cards were used as promotional items by Dad’s Cookies in 1959, stapling them to bags and boxes of cookies, each featuring an “autographed” picture of a big-league baseball star with a note from the company’s Scottish mascot, “Sandy.” The rarity of these cards is a result of their unique distribution method and limited surviving examples, making them highly coveted by collectors.

In addition to the Dad’s Cookies collection, the auction also includes two sought-after Ty Cobb T206 cards from the early 1900s. The El Principe de Gales Ty Cobb, graded PSA NM 7, is exceptionally rare with only one known example featuring the El Principe de Gales advertisement on the back. The American Beauty Portrait-Red Cobb, graded PSA EX-MT 6, is the highest-graded example of its kind, highlighting the significance of these iconic cards in the world of sports memorabilia.

Collectors at the auction will have the opportunity to explore a variety of sealed boxes and cases, including the 1970 Topps Baseball Wax Box (1st & 3rd Series) with 24 unopened packs potentially containing cards of legendary players like Carl Yastrzemski, Vida Blue, and Roberto Clemente. These items offer a nostalgic trip down memory lane and the thrill of uncovering hidden treasures, preserving a piece of childhood frozen in time.

For those interested in newer collections, the auction also features items like the 2015 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1 Hobby Unopened Case and the 2020 Panini Flawless Football Factory Sealed Case, offering the excitement of finding rare cards such as a Connor McDavid rookie card or a gem-mint rookie patch auto. Opening these boxes and cases presents a sense of adventure and mystery, adding to the intrigue of sports card collecting.

Heritage Auctions’ Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction promises to be an unforgettable experience for sports memorabilia enthusiasts, providing a unique chance to acquire some of the rarest and most valuable cards in existence. From iconic baseball cards to special collections and hidden treasures, this auction is a must-attend event for collectors looking to add exceptional pieces to their portfolios.
