Kids adore cards, recognition, kindness, and love. The sincere message from collector Ryan Peoples touched many hearts, highlighting the joy that small gestures can bring, especially to children.
The dilemma of having an overwhelming card collection is a common one for collectors. While selling surplus cards is an option, what if these unwanted cards could bring happiness to someone else’s life instead?
Recently, an opportunity arose when I came across a post by Ryan on the Bluesky social media platform, where he shared his mission of repurposing sports cards to bring joy to others, particularly kids.
Prompted by his heartfelt initiative, I swiftly packaged an 800-count box of 1989 Fleer cards, accompanied by some extra goodies, and sent it off to Idaho Falls to support Ryan’s cause.
Ryan’s distribution of donated cards takes various heartwarming paths throughout the year. From children at his wife’s school to patients at the infusion clinic where he works as a pharmacist and even fans at Idaho Falls Chukars games, the cards find their way to bring smiles.
As the holiday season approaches, the purpose of the cards expands. Engaged in Operation Christmas Child, Ryan fills shoeboxes with gifts for children globally, now including packs of trading cards, spreading joy and positivity in a simple yet impactful manner.
Ryan’s mission revolves around spreading positivity through cards to make children smile, encouraging others to follow suit and join in on the act of kindness.
For collectors willing to donate their surplus cards, Ryan is always open to contributions. Connect with him on Twitter/X or Bluesky for more information on how to participate, with a gentle reminder to check your 1989 Fleer boxes for those Billy Ripken cards before donating.
Whether you possess a surplus of dusty commons or simply seek to give back during the holidays, Ryan’s project demonstrates that even small acts of kindness can create a significant impact. Your unwanted cards could be just what a child needs to light up their face, embodying the true spirit of giving.
