The success of this auction comes on the heels of Fanatics and Sotheby’s initial collaboration, “Holy Grails,” which saw a LeBron James Exquisite card fetch $432,000. In this latest auction, a different version of the same card commanded $456,000, showcasing the enduring value of premium sports cards while also reflecting market adjustments. Just a few years ago, similar cards were selling for over $900,000, with peak prices surpassing $2 million in 2022.

The Exquisite line by Upper Deck played a pivotal role in revolutionizing the sports card industry by introducing rookie patch autographs, which have since become a staple for high-end collectors. Modern products like Panini’s National Treasures owe much of their popularity to the innovative approach pioneered by Karvin Cheung through Exquisite in the early 2000s.
